60-Second Stir-Fry: Antonio Ramos and Caroline Mak

It's sunny and warm outside, so we focus on wetting our whistle and keeping dangerous UV rays out of Mascot Cat's eyes in this week's 60-Second Stir-Fry.

The sodas that Antonio Ramos and Caroline Mak produce won't get them in trouble with Mayor Bloomberg — at 12 ounces, they're nowhere near the Big Gulp size that Mr. "Sugar Buzz Kill" Bloomberg is seeking to ban. But their drinks got Ramos and Mak included in a recent New York Magazine article that questioned whether the artisanal food movement in Brooklyn is "a sign of the apocalypse."

Of course, Ramos and Mak don't think their sodas are forecasting The Rapture (yes, my first question was a slow, high pitch across the plate).  Maybe 20-ounce Big Gulps are. Mak's answer of "ice headaches" as a reason to appreciate Big Gulps makes me think of how poet Robert Frost wrote that some say the world may end in ice.

These two come to their soda-making business with no formal culinary training, which helps explain why Ramos' go-to recipe is rice, and Mak doesn't have one.

Finally, if their answers to the question about their "guilty pleasure" foods are any guide, we might see Ramos and Mak devlop a cilantro-chocolate soda flavor in the future.
